Pineapple rocks, so I’m excited to try freeze dried fresh pineapple!
I’m pretty sure this is just gonna be amazing 🙂
I wanted to try freeze dried fresh pineapple so that later, I can compare it to freeze dried canned pineapple. I’m guessing there won’t be much difference, but I’m still curious, lol. I only got one pineapple, so I didn’t get a ton of chunks to freeze dry. But I think it’s enough to eat some and save some for later comparisons.
For this batch, I did some kiwi too (which I’ve done before, you can read it here), and some pears, and some lemon slices. The majority, two trays, was actually pears. After the Ice Queen (Harvest Right Home Pro Medium) did her 15 minute cooldown to start, I put the strawberries and tops in.
Well, this is just ridiculously good!
Freeze dried fresh pineapple is awesome! I’m so excited to try the canned at some point in the future.
As I mentioned before, I only got one pineapple, so I didn’t have tons to begin with. Then I ate a bunch of it, lol. Ended up with about a pint jar of it leftover.
So I put some of the pineapple into a jar with an oxygen absorber and then vacuum sealed them. I get my oxygen absorbers on Amazon from Wallaby, great value for the price! And this is the Electric Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer I have. The vacuum sealers easily fit in a drawer (I have two lol), which is important for me.
How long did the freeze dried fresh pineapple take?
So it was pineapple, kiwi, lemon slices, and pears. The whole lot of it took 40 hours.
Two hour defrost was needed after this batch, so I did that. Then I emptied the bucket out 🙂
Happy freeze drying!!
Freeze dried fresh pineapple is so freaking good!! I didn’t do tons when I did it, but I managed to not eat all of it (not easy) so I can compare to canned pineapple later on, got some canned at the store this morning:) pic.twitter.com/97QcCDvWsM
