Excited to try freeze dried kiwi!
I love kiwi, so I hope this is awesome!
For the prep, I peeled the kiwi – I just use a regular hand veggie peeler, lol. Then I sliced them up as evenly as I could. I ended up eating quite a bit, too, couldn’t help it.
This batch contained two trays of the sliced banana, two trays of sliced kiwi, and one tray with half wine berries and half mixed berries. I did pre-freeze all five trays, then into the Ice Queen freeze dryer (Harvest Right Home Pro Medium) they went:)
Kiwi is one of my favorite fruits, so I can’t wait to try it freeze dried!
Welp, this was an awesome idea!
The freeze dried kiwi is amazing, I really really like it! The texture is so weird for kiwi, but that’s what makes it even cooler:)
I kept some out to eat, of course. Then put the rest into mason jars with oxygen absorbers (I use Wallaby ones). Then I sealed them up with my handheld rechargeable jar vacuum sealers.
Timeframe on the kiwi?
The kiwi, banana, wine berries, and mixed fruit all seemed to need about the same amount of time. Total time for this batch ended up being 18 hours and 20 minutes.
With this batch and it taking so long, I definitely needed to defrost the freeze dryer after, so I just let it do the auto-set 2 hours and that was perfect.
Happy freeze drying!!
