And some wine berries:)
Freeze dried mixed berries… yum!
I like all kinds of berries and I had some wine berries frozen that I picked a few months ago, along with part of a bag of mixed berries. So I decided to freeze dry them. I might turn them into a powder, because the apple powder I made turned out AWESOME!
This batch contained two trays of the sliced banana, two trays of sliced kiwi, and one tray with half wine berries and half mixed berries. I did pre-freeze all five trays, then into the Ice Queen freeze dryer (Harvest Right Home Pro Medium) they went:)
I figure with the berries, I can do the powder like I already mentioned, or just have them to add to oatmeal and things, which will also be so good!
Freeze dried berries are just yummy!
I’ve done blueberries before, so I knew these would be good, haha. But I hadn’t thought about powdering them until I did the apple powder a bit ago. These are so good. I was worried that maybe some of the bigger berries in the mixed berries would take longer than the smaller stuff, like my wine berries. Or that maybe they wouldn’t end up all the way dry. But they did great!
I ate some of the berries, then put the rest into mason jars with oxygen absorbers (like I mention all the time, I use Wallaby ones). Then I sealed them up with my handheld rechargeable jar vacuum sealers.
These took a while…
The mixed berries, along with the kiwi and banana, all seemed to need about the same amount of time. Total time for this batch was 18 hours and 20 minutes.
Did the 2 hour default defrost after this batch. I also needed to empty the 5 gallon bucket I use, since it’s been a few batches since I did that. Fun, fun, lol.
Happy freeze drying!!
Freeze dried mixed berries and wine berries!! I think I might powder these like I did with the apple scraps! Having a mixed berry powder would be so awesome!! I could make the occasional sprite or ginger ale I drink so much more awesome🥳 pic.twitter.com/jmSejeQhzH
