Freeze dried turkey – can’t believe the meat is so good!
I was a bit skeptical, but now I am a believer!
I really wasn’t sure how I felt about freeze dried turkey – or any meat for that matter. But it is fantastic! It reconstitutes well, texture isn’t funky afterwards, and the best part? It’s out of my freezer, lol!
I did have both the turkey and bell peppers already in my freezer. So both were put into the Ice Queen (Harvest Right Home Pro Medium) freeze drier.
Still amazed at how the freeze dried turkey turned out, lol
Freeze drying onions and bell peppers worked so so well. I am super impressed with how they turned out!
While I did consider using mylar bags for the freeze dried turkey, I ended up using mason jars. Again, lol. So I put both the turkey and bell peppers into mason jars, added an oxygen absorber (I get mine from Wallaby), and used a jar sealer to finish the job. I then labeled them and put them on my shelf.
How long did this batch take?
From start to finish, freeze drying turkey and bell peppers took 16 hours initially, according to the Ice Queen. But when I checked it, some of the turkey wasn’t fully dry, so I added another 1.5 hours. This brought the total time to 17 hours and 30 minutes.
Again, the freezer needed to do its 2 hour defrost afterwards, which I did. Most freeze dried foods (except some candies) will require a defrosting between batches.
Happy freeze drying!!
